“I have been going to the Bar Method for 3 years. When I started I was a loose size 14 (12 reg.) I ran 50 miles a week. I ate a clean diet and yet I couldn’t shed the weight I gained from having two babies close together and a thyroid problem. I just bulked up the more I ran. I tried new food plans and new ways to mix up the cardio and nothing worked. A friend suggested I try the Bar method. I ignored her suggestion for over a year thinking how could something where you work your muscles in small movements be considered a workout? How could that help me loose this weight? I went. I shook. I felt tired after. I lost the weight.
At first I went to class twice a week and I didn’t see any changes. I asked another friend who taught there why it worked for her and not me and she suggested I try to go at least 4-5 times a week for 6 months. For a birthday gift I got the unlimited package and went 5 times a week. Of course I was the one person who gained a few pounds at first. The owners said, “the muscle is there, flush it out. Wait and don’t stop.” I didn’t and they were right.
Then I got frustrated because I am not too coordinated and the moves are so small. Another instructor took me aside and said, “ You get so upset. Just take a breath, start the move all over.” She was right. That worked. Another pulled me aside and suggested I change how I was doing the abdominal work and I listened and she was right. Another always knows when to push me. It took me wanting it and the village there to get me in the size 6 I am in now. I put a size 4 on recently and just stood there surprised.
I eat a clean diet. I now have a different approach to exercise since I walked into the doors at the Bar method. I don’t view exercise from a driven place anymore. I don’t judge myself so harshly. I am a bit more relaxed if I miss. Not because I lost the weight, but because I also let go of the worry. I did everything they suggested and it worked.
The Bar method helps produce lean muscles. I never thought I would have definition in my arms like I do now. I have never felt so strong and centered as well. I still run, but now I run faster and with a different purpose. I love putting on jeans now. The tighter the better. Never thought I would say that. How fun it is to feel more comfortable in my skin now!”
